Media: Actor Dmitry Nazarov was fired from the Moscow Art Theatre for criticizing the war
Russian media report that the star of the series "Kitchen" has been fired from the theater due to his anti-war stance. Nazarov himself stated that he knew nothing about it, but theaters have already started canceling his performances.
Actor Dmitry Nazarov and his wife, actress Olga Vasilieva, were fired from the Moscow Art Theatre named after Chekhov due to his anti-war statements, MK reported on Friday, January 13, citing its sources in the theater. Allegedly, the dismissal order was signed by the artistic director of the theater, Konstantin Khabensky, who had previously unsuccessfully attempted to "rein in" the actor.
Later, RBC confirmed the information about the dismissal of the actors with Vadim Vernik, the theater's deputy director for public relations. According to him, the termination decision was made following a conversation between Nazarov and Khabensky.
On Thursday, Tagilcity reported that a performance in Nizhny Tagil featuring Nazarov and Vasilieva, scheduled for February 1, was canceled, linking it to the actor's anti-war stance. Previously, so-called pro-war Z-activists demanded that the performance be cancelled. However, it seems that Nazarov himself did not receive any information about his dismissal by Friday evening. "How interesting! I know nothing about it. Don't read yellow newspapers on an empty stomach," he commented on this news to Msk1.ru.
Nazarov and anti-war poetry
Judging by his YouTube channel, Dmitry Nazarov does indeed speak out against the war in Ukraine, mainly by reciting relevant poems. "We are now losing the youth of our country - Russia’s gene pool is being laid to rest in dust." These were lines that the actor read in one of his recent videos dedicated to Russian losses in the war.
Nazarov is one of the most popular senior-generation actors in Russia, the official performer of the role of Ded Moroz (Russian Santa Claus) in Veliky Ustyug, and the star of the series "Kitchen."
