Vladimir Kara-Murza on The Washington Post was angered when he was heard to say, “according to polls and the past election, Russian citizens support Putin.”

His answer:
“Your phrase 'according to polls and elections' sounds like a joke or a provocation when it comes to authoritarian Russia. These are the tools of democracy. There is no access to information in Russia, and people are imprisoned for talking wrong in the backyard - and here you are seriously discussing the results of an alleged poll thrown out by the Russian propaganda. Tens of thousands of people have been detained for anti-war protests in 2.5 years, thousands have received huge prison sentences, and this is only what is publicly known”
