Unwelcome in Sweden: Olga Rogatjevskich: Jailed Activist and Mother of Five
Olga Rogatjevskich, an anti-war activist with five children and a member of the Russian Resistance, has been imprisoned in Sweden. Previously, Olga was denied asylum. On the morning of August 2, she was arrested after the migration service suspected a "planned escape." While she was placed in prison, her five children remained with their father.
“We are so afraid that they will take our children,” Olga said. With the increasing number of Russian men being sent to fight in Ukraine, Olga and her husband, Aleksei, did not dare to wait for the draft notice. They fled to Sweden with their children, only to find themselves unwelcome.
The migration service confiscated Olga and her family's passports, demanding that they purchase their own plane tickets, stating that their passports would only be returned once the tickets were bought.
Olga is known for her activism with the Russian movement "Media Partisans," where she serves as the chief translator for the "Russian Resistance" project and actively participates in anti-war protests in Sweden.
This is not the first instance of Russian citizens being unjustly banned from Sweden and forced to flee the country. According to Euronews, Sergey Poddubnyy, a Russian citizen and Ukrainian resident, is currently living in Sweden with his family. Moscow has issued him two military draft notices, putting him at risk of deportation and being forced to fight against a country he considers his own.
Swedish immigration officials are currently questioning the authenticity of the draft order. If it is confirmed as genuine, Poddubnyy will be deported and separated from his family. His wife and son, Ivan, are Ukrainian citizens and are allowed to stay in Sweden under the Mass Refugee Directive.
The "Russian Resistance" project documents instances of resistance and exposes crimes against democracy and justice to the world.
