Thousands of Russians around the globe protested in 45 countries and 121 cities as part of the global action "The Year of Terror"

From February 24 to 26, as part of the global action "The Year of Terror", thousands of Russians around the globe protested in 45 countries and 121 cities. The participants advocated the withdrawal of Russian troops from Ukraine, restoration of its territorial integrity within the 1991 borders, and the prosecution of anyone guilty of war crimes. Rallies were also organized to support the people of Ukraine and all those who continue to fight despite censorship and repression. Statements like “Victory for Ukraine!” and “Freedom for Russia!” were widely used in those rallies. “No to Russian Imperialism” slogan was declared by some representatives of Russia’s minority population. For many activists outside of Russia, "The Year of Terror" was a sign that opposition members could cooperate, despite living in different countries or even on different continents. Moreover, Russian activists, in addition to demonstrations and performances, organized charity exhibitions, meetings, and concerts, the funds from which will be used to help Ukraine. Many Russian communities have also become participants or-organizers of citywide and national events, organized by Ukrainian diasporas, dedicated to the dreadful date.

On top of that, public actions also happened within Russia. Spontaneousanti-war memorials appeared in many Russian cities on Friday, February 24. Police detained people who opposed the war. Overall, 54 people in Russia were detained at anti-war rallies, the human rights project OVD-Info calculated.
