"The Nobel Peace Prize laureate 'Memorial' is an important organization for civil society that conducts significant work in documenting and promoting a wider understanding of past crimes, with the aim of preventing their recurrence in the future. 'Memorial' has made outstanding efforts to document war crimes, human rights violations, and abuses of power.

The Norwegian Nobel Committee has received the news with great concern that charges have been brought against Oleg Orlov, the co-chairman of 'Memorial,' in connection with this important peacekeeping work."
