Draftee from Russia’s Bryansk region who refused to fight reports beatings and threats of being buried alive due to contacting journalists
According to the Agora human rights group, 25-year-old mobilized Roman Martynov has reported beatings and threats of being buried alive because of his conversations with journalists.
Martynov was mobilized on September 24th.He had only one training session on how to shoot from a rifle at the assembly point. On the seventh day of his duty, he was deployed to Ukraine. On the nextday, he refused to fight. “Afterwards, he was forced to go through three basements for conscientious objectors located in the LPR and DPR [the self-proclaimed Luhansk and Donetsk ‘people’s republics’],” Agora reports.
A telegram channel Astra previously released their information about these basements. After the report comeout, Martynov came under suspicion of spreading information among journalists.
Martynov claims that he was beaten and asked about potential whistle blowers. He responded by saying that he did notshare the information. On top of that, he did not even know where exactly objectors were being held.
“After, they raised me up, and without taking the blindfold off, without untying my hands, brought me outside. They left me in some sewer well. The well was narrow, empty, there was nowater, and it was about 1.5 meters wide. I wasn’t allowed to straighten up, I was sitting in a squat in the well.
On November 15 man was sent to undergo a military-medical commission. He was given an exemption from military service until December 7. He contacted a lawyer Maxim Grebenuk with whom they submitteda statement about the crime.
