Activist Yan Dvorkin is being prosecuted for spreading "LGBT propaganda."
Yan said that he was summoned to the police by a telegram, not by an ordinary summons. The investigator shouted at him and tried to take the printout of the case from his hands to prevent the activist from taking a photograph of this document. A lawyer was not allowed to see him for several hours. Now Dvorkin is defended by a lawyer from the organization "LGBT + Case". Turns out that the activist was reported by guardianship staff. Yan has been taking care of a child with a disability for several years and claims that these employees treated him normally, because he takes care of the child and regularly visits doctors with him. But everything changed when employees learned that Dvorkin openly writes on social networks about the lives of transgender and non-heterosexual people.
Shchukin's expert drew up a conclusion stating that in one of Yan's posts "there is a positive assessment of non-traditional relationships (not between a man and a woman)," because "a person called Sasha causes sensual attraction in the addressee." A trial will be held in the coming days. After the case was opened, the activist has been receiving threats and insults from homophobes, but also support from like-minded people. The international human rights initiative Front Line Defenders has included Yan Dvorkin on the list of people in need of special protection from the international community. Front Line Defenders calls on the Russian authorities not to label human rights activities as "propaganda" and to ensure that the rights of the LGBT community are respected. Despite serious problems, Dvorkin decided to stay in Russia to fight for his rights and help the LGBT community.
"Why am I not in exile yet? I ask myself all the time and find new answers. Because that's what the government wants. Force us to leave. And for me, to leave is to make it convenient for them, to help them in their plans to create lawlessness and just take away the life that I love."
